Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli's primary and oldest country of origin is Afghanistan, where it has been mined for more than 6,000 years.

Ancient Egyptians deeply treasured lapis lazuli as a divine stone symbolizing the night sky, the heavens, and the hair of the gods.

Hair of the Gods:

Egyptians believed that the hair and eyebrows of their deities were made of pure lapis lazuli.

Cosmology & Rebirth:

The deep blue colour with golden pyrite flecks resembled the starry night sky over primordial waters, symbolizing creation, life, and rebirth.

Divine Protection:

Pharaohs used it in funerary masks, scarabs, and jewellery such as on King Tutankhamun's mask to guide and protect the soul during the journey to immortality.

Royal Jewellery:

Craftsmen inlaid the stone into gold for amulets, pectorals, and royal regalia from the Predynastic period through the New Kingdom and later dynasties.

Cosmetics:

Royals ground the stone into powder for blue eye shadow and makeup, invoking the protective powers of goddesses like Isis.

Lapis lazuli is traditionally believed in crystal healing to promote wisdom, truth, inner power, and communication.
